Joyce Henneberry is an artist from Brevard, NC that works in Fiber Fusion. Fiber Fusion, the process of preparing fabric and other fibers with an adherent, fuses hundreds of small pieces of fiber to become one large tapis.
Joyce has a library of fabrics in her studio and begins pulling those fabrics off the shelves much like someone doing research in a library may pull books off of the shelves. She auditions the fabrics to see what will work and what won’t and then begins the process of preparing the fabrics for the piece of art she is creating. Each piece of fiber is cut by hand in a unique shape to convey the desired feeling of the object it is helping to create. The finished piece will go through a two-step fusion process to permanently adhere the hundreds of small pieces to become the final tapis. Each piece of art will comprise standard cottons and batiks blended with original, hand-dyed fibers that have been double-dyed for intense, vibrant colors. Each finished piece of art is a one of a kind, hand signed original.
